Aug.
5, 2008 -- WFHS statement regarding Wisconsin Humane
Society’s purchase of dogs from the Wallace Havens puppy
mill
While the Wisconsin Federated Humane Societies, Inc.
celebrates the release of over 1,100 animals from the
Wallace Havens puppy mill, it understands that
purchasing puppy mill animals as a vehicle to close down
a mill is well beyond the reach of the majority of our
state humane societies’ resources and should not be
looked to as a solution to the state’s growing puppy
mill problem.
The
WFHS continues to support law enforcement and
legislative and educational efforts as a means to
eliminate puppy mills and other mass breeding
operations. The WFHS also encourages all humane
societies and state partner organizations to continue to
work cooperatively with government officials to develop
strong and concise laws to control and protect animals
in mass breeding operations.
The
WFHS legislative committee, in partnership with other
state organizations, continues to work on comprehensive
legislation focused on regulating puppy mills. The WFHS
has been involved with the development of this
legislation for a number of years and is committed to
continuing this work until we are successful. Currently
the working group, along with state senators and
legislators, hope to introduce this new legislation in
the early portion of 2009. Please visit
www.nowisconsinpuppymills.org to learn more and find out
how you can help.
Working together we are committed to making a difference
for the thousands of dogs that suffer unseen in
Wisconsin puppy mills today.
